Facial rejuvenation at Halstead Dental Care

At Halstead Dentalcare we have now introduced Facial Beauty treatments to our treatment range, initially to compliment the cosmetic dental treatments we provide( see Tooth Whitening , Smile design and Oral Hygiene).

These treatments have proved so successful that we now get clients coming to see us for these treatments alone. We now call this side of our Practice, Facial Harmony.

Unlike larger national chain beauty clinics and salons we offer a truly personal service. You will be seen, consulted, diagnosed and treated by the same trained dental surgeon. Dental surgeons are ideally qualified to provide facial beauty treatments. We have an intimate knowledge of the facial anatomy and where injectable treatments are needed, we are very proficient at applying these as we give local anaesthetic injections every day.

Facial harmony at Halstead Dental Care are members of The Association of Facial Aesthetics ( see www.the-face.co.uk)

At Facial Harmony we offer the following treatments :-

Botulinum Toxin (‘Botox’) for facial rejuvenation

This treatment is probably the most popular cosmetic medical treatment for facial lines and wrinkles and can be used successfully either on its own or in combination with other rejuvenation treatments.

Treatment is a simple, non surgical procedure that smoothes persistent lines between your eyebrows, on your forehead and on your outer eye area.

A treatment session consists of a few tiny needle pricks that relax the muscles that caused those lines to form.

‘Botox’ is a simple’ minimally invasive treatment and there is no recovery time needed. The muscle relaxing benefits of the procedure can last up to an average of four months.

Frequently asked Questions

What can Botulinum Toxin be used for?

Softening  lines and wrinkles on the facial area eg;

· The forehead area (horizontal frown lines)
· Frown lines between the eyebrows
· Eye area (crows feet)
· Neck area
· Under the eyes
· Chin

What happens during treatment?

A very small amount of Botulinum toxin is injected into the treatment area on the face using a very small needle, so discomfort is minimal. Many patients feel nothing at all , no local anaesthetic is needed, and you are able to continue with your normal activities or work immediately.

How does Botulinum Toxin work?

It works by relaxing targeted muscles under the skin. Facial lines that are formed by the contraction of these muscles will then diminish or disappear.

When will I notice a Difference?

There is a slight swelling and redness straight after , which settles within a few hours. This can be disguised with make up.
The effect starts to work within 4-5 days, with the greatest effect being seen after about 2-3 weeks.

How long will the effects last?

3-6 months depending on each individual response. Repeat treatments have been shown to have a longer effect. Treatment with botulinum toxin can typically be carried out indefinitely.

What happens Pre and post treatment?

There are no pre treatment requirements other than a screening medical questionnaire. After your treatment, we ask you to frequently move the muscles that were treated and not to lie down for several hours.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can help restore your skin to its former youthful, fuller appearance.

As the skin ages , over time it loses some of its collagen and fat content. These are the materials that prevent your skin from sagging, and without them wrinkles and folds begin to develop.

The filler material is injected into the areas of the skin where it needs support and made to look firmer. The treatment can have an enormously positive effect on your appearance.

Fillers are available in different thicknesses. In general the thicker the filler product the deeper it will be injected  into the dermal layer of the  skin. This helps to plump out fine to deep lines and wrinkles.

Frequently asked Questions

Are there different types of fillers?

There are many different brand names of dermal fillers. There  are two main types, collagen and Hyaluronic acid , both these materials occur naturally in the skin.. In the UK , hyaluronic acid based products are most commonly used. We use these products in our clinic. The brand we use is Hydrafill by Allergan  and this is available in five different grades for use in different situations.

Are the injections painful?

Generally no. For some of the more sensitive areas ( around the lips) an anaesthetic cream or superficial local anaesthetic can be applied . For some treatments then as dentist’s we can utilise a dental anaesthetic  block injection to maximise your comfort.

How long does it take to work?

Results from treatment can be seen immediately, especially for lip enhancement.
There may be some slight swelling or redness immediately post treatment this can be disguised with a foundation cream.

How long does the treatment last?

For facial smoothing (deep folds and wrinkles) the gels are gradually broken down after 9-12 months . Lip enhancements last 6-12 months . Most patients who chose to have top ups do so at a time they feel the effect starting to wear off , ie anytime between 6– 12 months.

Is there a treatment available for men?

Yes, in particular for naso-labial folds and deeper cheek wrinkles.

Facial Peels

Peels have grown massively in popularity over the past two decades and can be a very effective treatment to rejuvenate and tighten the skin, treat sun damage, reduce lines and wrinkles  and deal with abnormal pigmentation problems. They are also a very powerful treatment for Acne and can be very effective where more conventional treatments have failed to control this condition.

There are several different types of medical peels and they can be used on the face  and hands and arms.  Some are carried out as a course of treatment , some are applied as a single treatment.

Most peels also involve the use of home aftercare products and it is important to follow the skincare instructions  you are given following a peel to gain maximum benefit.

Cosmaceuticals

Cosmaceutical is a term that has been used to describe a product that is a cross between a cosmetic and a medicine( pharmaceutical). Like cosmetics, most cosmaceuticals are topically applied , but they contain ingredients that influence and protect the biological function of the skin. Cosmaceuticals  improve appearance , but they do so by delivering nutrients necessary for healthy skin. ( they contain High SPF factors for sun protection).

Cosamceuticals aim to improve skin health by targeting prevention, and correction and so most products are designed to prevent future damage, protect healthy skin, or correct previous damage.

The active ingredients in most products are patented nutrients recognised as antiageing, for example anti oxidants, amino acids, vitamins , minerals and botanicals, Each of these unique formulations works at a cellular level to help skin and body achieve and maintain a more youthful, healthy look.

At Facial Harmony we stock a range of Products by Jan Marini.

Prevention

The most effective way to look after your skin and maintain a youthful appearance is to avoid factors which cause damage and ageing.

The most common one is the sun. Exposure to the sun is very detrimental to the skin. Exposure should be kept to a minimum and the use of high protection sunscreen barriers(SPF 30 and above) should be used and reapplied frequently. Daily moisturisers and cosmetics must contain high SPF sun protection.

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are also very ageing on the skin and should be discouraged.
