A large proportion
of patients at our Practice are children as we are
primarily a family practice. Our philosophy is that
prevention is better than cure. Our dental team will
spend a lot of time talking and educating both parents
and child on the best prevention methods. Click
for more information.
These are:-
- Tooth brushing-
It is important to encourage regular, thorough,
brushing twice daily with a good toothbrush. Our
dental team will instruct our young patients on
the best technique. We recommend and stock the
Oral B Stages range.

- Diet- The
primary cause of dental decay is sugar. It is essential
to limit the amount of sugar consumed to ideally
at mealtimes with in between snacks not containing
sugar. Remember to look out for hidden sugars in
drinks and snacks.’
- Low sugar squashes and ‘diet’ versions
of soft drinks are recommended.
Orthodontics
Our team will monitor your
child’s dental development
every six months and recommend orthodontic intervention
if any crowding or misalignment is noted. (please see
the separate section in the treatment page –Orthodontics)
Gum Shields
It is important to protect a young developing smile
from any traumatic injury. Obviously some sports are
high risk (rugby and hockey). You should consider having
a protective gum shield made if your child plays contact
sports.
